Managing a trade: TP1, TP2, TP3 and breakeven
Opening a trade is half the work. The other half is managing it correctly.
Partial profit taking
- TP1: close about 50% of the volume and move the stop to the entry price. From now on the trade can't end in a loss.
- TP2: close another 25–30% and trail the stop behind the nearest M15 low (for a buy) or high (for a sell).
- TP3: let the remaining 20% run to the main target.
Why do it this way
You bank profit along the way and keep a chance for a big move. Even with a sharp reversal after TP1, the trade ends positive.
The ManualTrailAssist bot (MT5 Bots section) moves the stop to breakeven and trails it automatically in manual trades.
