Euro against pound sterling, a cross rate driven mainly by UK and eurozone policy and data.
EUR/GBP shows how many pounds one euro buys. It is a cross pair, so it does not include the US dollar. Traders use it to trade the relative outlook for the UK and eurozone economies and their central banks.

EUR/GBP is a cross rate between two European currencies. The euro was launched as an accounting currency on 1 January 1999 and as cash on 1 January 2002, under the Maastricht Treaty signed in 1992. The UK never adopted the euro and kept sterling. The UK joined the Exchange Rate Mechanism in 1990 and left it on 16 September 1992, a day known as Black Wednesday. The eurozone debt crisis from 2010 to 2012 weighed on the euro and kept the pair volatile for years. The UK voted to leave the EU in a June 2016 referendum, which caused a sharp move in the pair. The UK left the EU on 31 January 2020, and the trade relationship changed at the end of 2020.
