How 'the girl of 100 portraits' inspired two books
Almost eight decades after artists' model Louise Cansot was murdered in Paris in 1949, her story has inspired two books. Her body was found near the Seine in September 1949. Police at the time described the young woman, known as 'the girl of 100 portraits', as loose, libertine and an unmarried mother, and closed the investigation after four months with little progress. Luc Corlouër made a 'deal' with Prix Goncourt winner Philippe Jaenada over Jaenada's research into her case. Cansot is the subject of the novel that won France's most prestigious literary prize this year.
