Bank of England raises interest rates to 4%, first rise in three years
The Bank of England has raised its base interest rate by 0.25 percentage points, to 4%. It is the first rate rise in more than three years. The increase leaves millions of households facing a sharp rise in their mortgage payments.
📊 What it means for markets
Rate rises often support the domestic currency and can lift bond yields, while raising borrowing costs. Rate-sensitive stocks, such as housing-related shares, may face pressure, and gold may weaken as yields rise. This is not a trading signal.
