Florida executes man as three US executions are scheduled for same day
Florida executed Jesse Guardado on Thursday, and he was pronounced dead at 6.13pm after a three-drug injection at a state prison in Starke, the governor's office said. The execution was Florida's 19th of the year, which ties a record. Three US states carried out or scheduled executions on the same day: Indiana executed a man hours earlier, and Alabama had scheduled an injection execution later that day. Guardado had pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing a 75-year-old woman in her Walton county home in 2004, then stealing her jewelry box, $80 and other valuables to buy drugs.
