Iran war: Gulf tanker attacked, one seafarer killed
Iran is stepping up attacks on shipping in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. A Greek-owned tanker is believed to have been struck by a missile, and one seafarer was killed. Iran said two other vessels were on fire.
📊 What it means for markets
Attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, a key oil transit route, often lift oil prices and freight and insurance costs. Gold and the US dollar may gain as safe-haven assets when risk aversion rises, while shipping and insurance stocks can become volatile.
